Othello, Quincy start state

YAKIMA, Wash. — For the second consecutive season, the Lady Huskies will represent Othello High School at the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) girls state basketball tournament this week in the Yakima SunDome.
Othello begin this week’s 2A girls state tournament with a 16-7 total record, including 14-4 during Central Washington Athletic Conference (CWAC) regular season play.
The Lady Huskies have won six of their last seven games heading into this afternoon’s first-round matchup with the Hockinson Hawks.
Othello’s only loss during the seven-game stretch was a 63-53 loss to conference champion Prosser in the girls CWAC tournament title game.
For just the second time in school history, the Lady Huskies will compete in the WIAA state tournament. CWAC co-Player of the Year and senior Allison Walker helped lead the Huskies to a seventh-place finish at the 2008 state tournament. Othello went 2-2 in the tournament before falling to Pullman in the fourth and seventh place consolation final.
While the Lady Huskies are the only girls team from the Columbia Basin to represent their school at the girls state tournament, they aren’t the only team from the Columbia Basin to make the trip to the Yakima SunDome.
The Quincy Jacks kicked off their state tournament this morning with a game against the Anacortes Seahawks.
Quincy made the journey to the state tournament after knocking off CWAC regular season champion Wapato 67-55 in the boys CWAC tournament title game.
The Jacks last made the trip to the WIAA state tournament in 2005 when Quincy fell 44-41 to Medical Lake in the state championship game.
