Vikings take out visiting Trailblazers

MOSES LAKE — The Big Bend Vikings men’s baseball team continued their winning ways Saturday with a doubleheader victory over the visiting Centralia Trailblazers at Larson Playfield.

The Vikings improved to 5-1 this season with Saturday’s two-game sweep.

The Trailblazers managed to get off to a fast start during the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning. The Trailblazers added to their lead in the fifth inning, taking a 3-0 lead over the Vikings.

Big Bend finally got hot in the seventh inning and nothing could stop the Vikings as they rallied for six of their seven runs for the 7-6 victory.

After winning the first game of the four-game home stand, Big Bend continued to roll in the second half of the doubleheader.

The Vikings jumped on the Trailblazers early, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Centralia responded in the third inning by taking a 2-1 lead over Big Bend.

While the Trailblazers took the lead in the third, Big Bend  rallied in the late innings.

The Vikings scored two runs in each the fifth and sixth innings to recapture the lead at 5-2.

With the Vikings leading late, Big Bend took a commanding lead in the bottom of the eighth with four runs to take a 9-3 lead, a lead they would never give up.

Big Bend continued to put the pressure on Centralia Sunday, taking the third game of the series 1-0 to improve to 6-1 this season.

Results from Sunday’s series finale were unavailable.

Big Bend head coach Don Lundgren was also unavailable for comment.

Big Bend returns to the diamond this weekend when they travel to Green River Community College in Auburn, Wash. to take on the Gators in a four-game series.

Both doubleheaders are scheduled to begin at noon.
