Big Bend trustees confirmed

MOSES LAKE — Three Big Bend Community College trustees were officially appointed to their positions by the state Senate.

Sen. Janéa Holmquist, R-Moses Lake, moved the nominations be confirmed for Soap Lake resident Mike Wren, Warden resident Angela Pixton and Moses Lake resident Katherine Kenison.

Wren manages Grant County Port District 9 and serves as president of the Grant County Economic Development Council. He also serves on the Ephrata Chamber of Commerce. For 20 years, he served  in the U.S. Air Force.

“Mile will be a tremendous asset to the aviation training program at Big Bend Community College,” Holmquist stated. “His strong background in aviation and his commitment to improving educational opportunities for our citizens make him the ideal choice for this position.”

Pixton attended Honolulu Community College and Eastern Washington University. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. She is a registered nurse overseer and a consultant for Hearthstone Inn and JEA Corporation.

“Angela’s expertise in the medical field and in agriculture, and her familiarity with small communities will serve her well,” Holmquist stated. “She is well-qualified for the position to which she has been appointed.”

Kenison earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Pomona College and law degree from the University of Puget Sound Law School. She also attended Big Bend Community College. She is a partner at Lemargie, Kenison, Wyman and Whitaker. Before that, she was deputy prosecutor for Grant County and city and port attorney by contract for several cities.

“Due to the unfortunate passing of a worthy trustee, Bob Holloway, and the other position’s vacancy, it is critical we keep Katherine on the Board,” Holmquist stated. “Her past experience, legal background and history of civil service are reasons why she was reappointed.”
