MOSES LAKE — Despite the economic downturn, graphic designer Michaelle Boetger says one must constantly market their services and network to grow their business.

“Now is the time to promote your business and get the word out,” she explained. “You need to be shouting from the rooftops.”

Boetger’s marketing message must be effective. She’s very busy with her work, she says.

Her home-based business, Michaelle Boetger Graphic Designs, has done work for companies ranging from a new skin care center to the Grant County PUD, one of the area’s largest employers.

She encourages new businesses to test the water and try different mediums of getting their message out. Businesses can determine what works best for them.

“It should be a nice mix of things,” she said.

For her business, she sends out one e-mail per month to inform others of her services.

Boetger is also promoting permission-based e-mail marketing within her business, which can include newsletters, coupons and e-mail cards for recipients.

Recipients can decide if they want to receive the e-mails.

Her services also include logo design, newsletters, brochures, business cards, advertising, invitations, direct mail, promotions and flyers.

Boetger and her husband Jeremy moved to Moses Lake a year and a half ago from Iowa. ?They worked for the same manufacturing company, but were laid off.

They decided to focus on his career and came to Moses Lake for his job.

The move appears to have worked well for the couple.

With an Internet connection and a computer, she was able to work from home and start her own business.

After 10 years working in the corporate world, Michaelle found she loves her flexible schedule.
