Francis (Bud) L. Littlefield
Francis Littlefield, born April 29, 1915, in St. Anthony, Idaho, to Samuel James and Vera (Rosenlof) Littlefield, peacefully passed away Feb. 28, 2009, at Sunbridge Care Center.
The second of seven children, Francis dropped out of school after the eighth grade to help support the family during the depression. He worked at whatever was available; fought forest fires and joined the CCC which was his first full time job. Bud joined the U.S. Army in January 1941. He married his hometown sweetheart Laura LuDeane Airhart Oct. 1, 1941, in Las Vegas, Nev., and started their lives together in Riverside, Calif. Francis received orders to report to a base in Baltimore, Md., and was passing through Salt Lake City when Pearl Harbor was attacked. Bud and Laura lived on many different Army bases on the West Coast until he shipped out to engage the enemy on Okinawa.
After the war he attended jewelry school in Sacramento, Calif. Bud lived and worked at that profession in Idaho Falls, Blackfoot and Burley, Idaho, until his retirement in 1980. While in Burley he joined the Lions club and attended several International Lions Conventions throughout the world. Bud enjoyed working with his hands and built three boats and a summer home on Henry’s Lake in his spare time. When he joined the Army he told them he could fix anything and proved that statement correct throughout his life.
In November 2007, Francis and Laura moved from Hemet, Calif., to Moses Lake Senior Living Community to be closer to their family.
Family survivors include his wife Laura of 67 years, brother Kenneth Littlefield of Portland, Ore., one son, Gregory and his wife Nayda (Schlien) Littlefield of Moses Lake, four grandchildren; Lisa and husband Dwight Solomon of West Valley, Utah, Erilyn Littlefield in Salt Lake City, Utah, Bryce Littlefield, and wife Rebekah of Moses Lake, and Kayla Littlefield in Garmisch, Germany, three great-grandchildren; Jennifer and Michael Solomon, West Valley, Utah, and Dylan Gregory Littlefield, Moses Lake.
