MOSES LAKE — More than 200 people gathered in the Chief Moses Middle School cafeteria Sunday to celebrate Black History Month.

Pastor Randy Moore said he expected around 140 people to attend but wasn’t surprised at the amount of people who showed up.

“I knew God was going to send more people,” he explained.

The celebration, sponsored by Say “Yes Lord” Ministries,” featured entertainment including gospel rappers and poetry readings.

Presentations such as “I Am” by the Say “Yes Lord” Ministries youth and young adults focused on history. During the presentation, children dressed up as historical figures, including Rosa Parks, Harriet Tubman and Barack Obama. The “Father God, Mother Africa” presentation featured ministry women dressed in African clothing.

The keynote speaker was Associate Pastor Chris Barner, who talked about history that is “not necessarily taught in mainstream schools.”

Barner discussed God’s role in history.

“He will never finish a story without bringing back his glory,” he said.

A group from Ready to Serve Ministries in Spokane attended and helped lead musical portions of the event.

A free meal was provided to all participants, with food from the Food Pavilion. Moore said a manager at the store helped with costs.

“He hardly charged us anything,” he said.

Moore, who founded Say “Yes Lord” Ministries, said the Black History Program was the first annual event of its kind.
