Warden baseball field gets new sod

WARDEN — Warden’s baseball field received a new covering in time for the baseball season.

The field was in poor shape when Warden High School’s baseball coach Dan Caballero approached the Lions Club about fixing the field, said Erik Skone, a Warden Lion’s Club member.

“It was just diseased and ugly. It wasn’t green and it was just really rough. It basically could turn a routine ground ball into a bouncy something,” he said. “The baseball coach has been trying to get it done for a year now and just could never get it done.”

Desert Green Turf, a Moses Lake-based sod company, donated rolls of sod to the project. The company is part-owned by Lions Club member Nathan Cox.

Along with the sod, about 25 community members including baseball players and Lion’s Club members helped level the infield and lay the sod.

“(The project) actually went together pretty fast once everyone agreed,” Skone said. “It only took about a day and a half to completely gut it and get it done.”
