MOSES LAKE — Members of the 2009 Babe Ruth World Series Task Force assembled Wednesday night at the Holiday Inn Express in Moses Lake to discuss the baseball tournament to be held at Larson Playfield Aug. 15 through Aug. 22.

The 2009 Babe Ruth World Series baseball tournament is less than two months away and tournament co-Director and Task Force Chairman Randy Boruff said participant housing is still a priority.

“Moses Lake is (almost) done and we still need a couple of homes in Ephrata,” he said.

Housing co-Coordinator Eileen Martinez said the Babe Ruth World Series Task Force needs between nine and 12 homes to satisfy tournament requirements, she said.

“I’m still needing five to seven more homes in Moses Lake,” she said. “I need four or five more homes in Ephrata.”

In addition to needing volunteers to host tournament participants, the task force needs to acquire volunteers to work at the tournament, Boruff said.

“We will take any volunteer who wants to help,” he said.

While participant housing and volunteers are priorities for the task force, Boruff said the task force is close to paying the final $20,000 required to host the event to Babe Ruth League baseball.

“We have $58,131 in the bank,” he said. “We still owe (the final) $20,000 to Babe Ruth.”

Tickets for the 2009 Babe Ruth World Series are scheduled to go on sale July 1 in Moses Lake at the Columbia Basin Herald, the Moses Lake Parks and Recreation Department, and the Moses Lake Chamber of Commerce. Tickets will be available at The Bookery and the Grant County Journal in Ephrata.
