MOSES LAKE — The Basin Piecemakers Quilt Guild is holding their quilt show at the Moses Lake High School on Friday and Saturday.

The show is open on Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the high school, located at 803 E. Sharon St.

Tickets are $3.

The Piecemakers Guild is holding the show to raise money for charity, according to Barbara Bolton, co-chair of the Basin Piecemakers.

There are many things to do at the quilt show. There will be about 160 quilts to view, refreshments, door prizes, quilt demonstrations, and one of the quilts will be raffled, with tickets costing $1.

Winners are announced Saturday at 3 p.m. and don’t need to be  present to win.

The quilt is queen sized and named marshmallows and mocha. The quilt was made by members of the Basin Piecemakers, according to spokesperson Karen Counsell.  Both the pattern and fabric were chosen by committee. Members cut and sewed the blocks of the quilt. The committee sewed the blocks together.

“Personally, it would have taken me about 16 hours,” said Bolton.

The Basin Piecemakers are involved with several charities. They are involved in Quilts of Valor, a national organization making quilts for soldiers coming home from the war, and veterans. They also make lap quilts for people in nursing homes and quilts for babies in low income families.

Both Bolton and Counsell said they were drawn to the guild by their love of sewing. Counsell said she had an interest in quilts and it was natural for her to become involved with the Basin Piecemakers.

The quilt show has been taking place for the last 15 years and used to be held during the Spring Festival. The show is now held every other year due to low membership.

All people are encouraged to attend, Counsell said. Quilting enthusiasts are invited to come and teach their techniques.
