MOSES LAKE — Moses Lake High School graduate Chayla Hirz signed a Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges letter of intent to play basketball at Big Bend Community College next season.

Hirz helped lead the Chiefs to back-to-back appearances in the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association 4A state basketball tournament. Hirz helped the Chiefs to a second-place finish in 2008 and a sixth-place finish in 2009.

Hirz is the third member of this year’s Moses Lake girls basketball team to sign a letter of intent to play basketball in college. Carly Noyes signed a letter of intent to play basketball next season for the Washington State Cougars and Kelly Sutherland signed with Bellevue Community College.

Big Bend women’s head basketball coach Preston Wilks said he is excited to have Hirz committed to playing next season for the Lady Vikings.

“Chayla is a talented player and we are pleased to have her sign with our program,” he said. “She’s a basketball junkie, and that suits us just fine. We love players who know the game and possess a passion for basketball.”
