Nellie Griffith, 94, passed away June 17, 2009, in Moses Lake.

She was born on July 13, 1914, in the Billings, Mont., area to Louis and Lena Globstad. She married Walter Griffith on Nov. 7, 1940. They settled in the Moses Lake area in 1958.

She enjoyed going to garage sales, crocheting and collecting salt and pepper shakers. She worked for the Columbia Basin Herald for many years.

She is survived by her son, George (Jeanette) Griffith of Moses Lake and a daughter Nellie Ann (Vern) Sylvester of Everett, Wash.; brother-in-law Dave O’Neill of Walla Walla, Wash.; granddaughters Linda Williams of Ephrata and Tammy (Jesse) Bertino of Stanwood, Wash., and an honorary granddaughter Kim (Reed) Avery of Burlington, Wash.; great-grandchildren Cyrus Williams, Ariel (Aaron) Layes, Kelsey Bertino, Colby Bertino Haleigh Avery and Cole Avery, great-great-grandchildren Eternity Mae Nelson, Ocean Layes, Hero Layes and Johnathan Layes due in July 2009.

She was preceded in death by her husband Walter, daughter Mary Alice, brother Henry, sisters Gertrude and Olga.

Visitation will be held at Kayser’s Chapel Friday, June 19, from 8 a.m. until noon. Graveside services to be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 19, 2009, at Pioneer Memorial Garden. Pastor David Daugs will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice.
