Pirates scuttled by Falcons

| June 15, 2009 9:00 PM

MOSES LAKE — The Kelowna Falcons swept the Moses Lake Pirates with a loss in the last game of the series Sunday, 6-2.

Kelowna’s starting pitcher Chris O’Neil threw for six innings, giving up just two hits.

“Pirates’ lefty Billy Armstrong was touched up for five runs in just two innings of work. Armstrong struggled with his command, presumably due to pitching on just three days rest,” according to a team spokesperson. “He was effective in his first start when he went nearly seven innings and gave up just one run Wednesday night against Wenatchee.”

Friday, Pirate pitcher John Robinson pitched a complete game giving up just one run, but it was the sole score in the game where Kelowna defeated Moses Lake in the first game of the series.

Robinson performed much better than his first game, where he gave up six runs on eight hits in three innings against the Wenatchee Apple Sox.

Tommy Elrod and Cody Springer threw a no-hitter for Kelowna to seal the game.

Saturday was a 7-3 victory for the Falcons.

The Pirates started strong by jumping on the pitches of Kelowna’s starting pitcher Cody Aycock. Moses Lake batters gathered three runs in the first three innings.

Shortstop Chris Casazza hit a solo home run over the fence in centerfield in the third inning to give Moses Lake a lead of 3-1.

In the seventh and eighth innings, the Falcons rallied back with six runs to win the second game of the series.

The Pirates leave for Wenatchee to play the Apple Sox in their the first road trip of the 2009 season.

They return home on Friday to start a two game series with the Spokane Riverhawks.

During the series is B-Fest, a motorcycle show following the baseball games. Vendors, motorcycles and food are featured as part of B-Fest on Friday and Saturday.
