MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake Chiefs and the Royal Knights football teams took to the Lions Field turf in Moses Lake Tuesday afternoon to participate in a spring football jamboree.

The Moses Lake football team wrapped up their sixth day of practice with Tuesday’s jamboree and head coach Greg Kittrell said his team has improved this spring.

“On our sixth day of practice, we are feeling pretty good,” he said. “I thought we stepped up and played real well.”

Although the Chiefs have improved this spring, Kittrell said his football team is a work in progress.”

“We still have a lot of work to do,” he said. “We had a few head scratchers.”

The Chiefs are working on installing a new defense this spring and Kittrell said his team responded Tuesday against Royal.

“(We stopped) the run out of a three-man front,” he said. “I thought our coverage was strong except for a couple (of plays).”

While Moses Lake had a few breakdowns during the scrimmage, Kittrell said he was encouraged to see how his players responded to their  mistakes.

“We had a couple breakdowns,” he said. “I thought the kids responded well when they made a mistake. We want to be perfect on every play.”

After Tuesday’s jamboree, Kittrell said it was nice to see his team progress since the beginning of spring practices.

“They are coming across and hitting people,” he said. “We are moving pretty close to being a physical team again. We are getting more and more physical every practice.”

The Chiefs and the Knights participated in a 72-play jamboree with both teams playing from the 35-yard line heading into the end zone.

Royal head football coach Wiley Allred was unavailable for comment.
