Dorathy Anna Gibson died peaceably in her sleep the morning of May 28, 2009.

She was born on Aug. 29, 1920, in Sunnyside, Wash., to Walter and Alfa (nee Corn) Butchart, the first of five siblings. She graduated from Granger High School in 1937 and then attended the Yakima Business College, where she studied bookkeeping and accounting. She married William (Bill) Gilman in 1941 in Yakima. In 1954, the family moved to Moses Lake. After Bill’s death in 1969, Dorathy married Keith Gibson in 1974 and moved back to Yakima, where she lived until 2007. She lived briefly in North Bend and Puyallup before settling at the Ansara Family Home in Bellevue, where she lived until her passing.

During her career she worked at Larsen AFB, the First Presbyterian Church, and C&V Auto, all in Moses Lake. In Yakima, she worked for the 4th District Congressional office of Jay Inslee and the First Presbyterian Church. She was also very active in the Yakima Community Concert Association and Beta Sigma Phi.

Dorathy is survived by son John (Jay) Gilman of Pueblo, Colo.; daughter Jena Gilman of North Bend; son Joel Gilman of Perth, Australia; and two step-daughters: Yvonne Skinner of Colfax and Karen Morgan of Kansas City, Kan. She also leaves her sister Alfa (Irene) Little of Tacoma, aunt Alice (nee Corn) Wright of Puyallup, grandchildren Rain Gilman (Seattle), William Gilman (Craig, Colo.), Johnna Slocum (Pueblo, Colo.) and Tamora Gilman (Colorado Springs, Colo.); step-grandchildren Kelly Plume (Murrieta, Calif.), Jeremy Morgan (Aurora, Colo.), Ryan Morgan (Murrieta, Calif.), Courtney Morgan (Fort Collins, Colo.); and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. on June 27, 2009, at Powers Funeral Home in Puyallup.
