Moses Lake seniors win conference awards

MOSES LAKE — The National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) announced the winners last week of their Columbia Basin Big Nine scholar athlete awards.

Moses Lake’s winners were seniors David Asfour (boys tennis) and Shelby Gonzales (fastpitch softball).

The NECA/IBEW presented the Big Nine conference awards for the fifth time to scholar athletes from each of the conference’s 14 schools.

In all, 28 student-athletes, 14 females and 14 males, were selected for the awards.

Asfour and Gonzales demonstrated balance in academics, athletics, and community involvement to win the awards.

The NECA and the IBEW are two organizations helping train future electricians.
