Basketball camp comes to Ephrata

EPHRATA — The 2009 Desert Heat Hoops basketball camp will begin June 15 at the Marty O’Brien Gym in Ephrata.

The basketball camp will be separated into two two-week events. The first week will begin June 15 and end June 17. The second week will begin July 6 and end July 8.

The Desert Heat Hoops camp is designed to emphasize basketball fundamentals. Participating individuals will be divided into groups according to ability levels.

The camp will focus on developing proper shooting techniques, dribbling, passing, footwork, rebounding, defensive positioning, and individual drills. Team games will also be included in the camp including one-on-one, two-on-two, and five-on-five situations.

Awards will be given to deserving campers after the program.

The cost for the program is $66 per week and the camp is open to basketball players in third grade through 12th grade. Lunches will be available for campers at $5 per day.

The coaching staff for the Desert Heat Hoops camps include Ellensburg assistant coaches Devin O’Brien and Tyson Sterza, four-year Central Washington University basketball starter Colton Monti, and two-year Walla Walla Community College player Jimmy Williams.
