MOSES LAKE SIGN ORDINANCE
After reading the paper and what appears to be a blatant disregard for what the people are saying they want (no ordinance) and what the City Council seems to intend to do (pass the ordinance regardless of what the people say they want) I hope that everyone writes to the Council and tells them exactly how they feel about the Council doing the opposite of what those who elected them want. After reviewing this article with my children even my 7 year old daughter pointed out that what appears to be transpiring is not right and summed it up with “that’s not fair, the people elected them.” The fact that someone represents that 144 people would sign a petition in favor of the sign ordinance does not outweigh a petition that is actually signed by individuals who do not want the sign ordinance.
This appears to be an attempt by the City Council to stifle those with political views different than their own (and those who want to protest taxes). Keep in mind that the proposed sign ordinance did not come into being until the TEA (Taxed Enough Already) Party wanted to post signs and meet on public property (property that is paid for with tax dollars). My understanding (and I could be mistaken) is that the City was forced to give the group a permit under the existing ordinance, hence, the need to change the ordinance. Remember the phrase “taxation without representation.”
The issue was tabled because there were simply too many people in attendance who do not agree with the ordinance. Thank you Mr. Liebrecht for representing your constituents!
Regardless of how you feel about the actual sign ordinance, please write to your City Council to remind them that it is government for the people, by the people.
