FedEx Ground center nearing completion
MOSES LAKE — An 8,000 square-foot distribution center for FedEx Ground is expected to be completed soon.
Work on the facility started at the beginning of the year, said David Bailey, the Port of Moses Lake’s project consultant.
FedEx Ground leased space from the port on the existing site using portable facilities, Bailey explained.
Earlier this week, port commissioners approved a revenue bond not to exceed $1.1 million to pay for the “construction and equipping of port facilities to lease to FedEx,” according to the resolution.
With the bond, the port entered into a 12-year agreement with FedEx and financed the project through a commercial bank loan, Bailey said.
FedEx’s lease payments pay the loan payment for 12 years, he explained.
“The key thing is, we’re providing facilities for an existing company and services,” Bailey said. “We think this is good for Moses Lake. When they vacate the facility, the facility belongs to the port.”
