MOSES LAKE — Moses Lake resident Jeremy Skinner died when the car he was riding in crashed early Saturday morning.

The 23-year-old was the passenger in a 1994 Honda Accord when it left the road at the intersection of Road 7 Northeast and Stratford Road.

“Due to their speed, they went airborne,” said Grant County Chief Deputy Courtney Conklin. “It (stopped) 600 feet from the intersection, where it came to rest in the fields.”

At 2:44 a.m., a caller reported a vehicle speeding on Road 7 Northeast. While a deputy was heading to intercept the speeder, the Multi Agency Communication Center (MACC) dispatcher advised of a report of an accident at the intersection Road 7 Northeast and Stratford Road. Both reports were the same vehicle, said Conklin.

Investigators estimate the Accord entered the intersection at roughly 90 mph, left the ground, rolled several times and landed on its top in an open field.

Driver Mathew P. Cump, 20, Moses Lake, is facing an investigation for vehicular homicide. He was transported to Samaritan Healthcare for treatment of possible minor injuries. He was wearing his seat belt.

Skinner was pronounced dead at the scene. He was also wearing his seat belt and remained in the car, Conklin said.

Alcohol is suspected as an element for the wreck, according to the sheriff’s office.

“It’s under investigation for vehicular homicide,” said Conklin.
