MOSES LAKE — The 2009 Babe Ruth World Series Task Force met Wednesday night at the Holiday Inn Express in Moses Lake to discuss preparations for the baseball tournament to be held at Larson Playfield Aug. 15 through Aug. 22.

The 2009 Babe Ruth World Series baseball tournament is less than four weeks away and tournament co-Director and Task Force Chairman Randy Boruff said participant housing is still a priority.

“We need people to step up in Moses Lake,” he said at a previous meeting.

Housing co-Coordinator Eileen Martinez said the Babe Ruth World Series Task Force still needs approximately seven homes in Moses Lake to satisfy Babe Ruth League tournament requirements, she said.

“I need seven homes,” she said. “I don’t have anyone else to call. I need to find homes for 14 boys.”

In addition to needing volunteers to host tournament participants, the task force needs to acquire volunteers to work on staff at the tournament next month, Boruff said.

“We will take any volunteer who wants to help,” he said.

While participant housing and volunteers are priorities for the task force, Boruff said other aspects of tournament planning are progressing smoothly.

Tickets for the 2009 Babe Ruth World Series went on sale July 1 in Moses Lake at the Columbia Basin Herald, the Moses Lake Parks and Recreation Department, and the Moses Lake Chamber of Commerce. Tickets will be available at The Bookery and the Grant County Journal in Ephrata.

To volunteer to house a world series participant, contact Eileen and Roger Martinez at 509-765-1052.

Advertising space in the Babe Ruth World Series program is still available.

To volunteer to help at the world series tournament or to advertise in the program, contact tournament co-Director Kerry Garbe at 509-750-4575.

The Babe Ruth World Series Task Force will meet again next Wednesday, July 29 at the Holiday Inn Express on East Kittleson in Moses Lake.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
