GEORGE — A wild land fire burned more than 150 acres of sagebrush Tuesday afternoon, roughly six miles southwest of George.

The fire began near Interstate 90, between George and the Vantage Bridge, near the Wild Horse Monument, said Grant County Fire District 10 Capt. Russ Hersch.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The fire damaged more than 150 acres of sagebrush and about three to four acres of wheat land.

Fire district 10, Grant County Fire District 3, Grant County Fire District 13 and the Ephrata Fire Department responded at about 2:30 p.m.

The fire was about 95 percent contained by about 7:50 p.m., Grant County Emergency Management Special Projects Coordinator Kyle Foreman reported. Firefighters were able to leave the scene by 9 p.m.

There were no injuries and no structures were threatened.

“The fire had caused traffic interruptions on I-90 as motorists slowed or stopped to watch the fire,” he stated.
