Constitution Party opposes Sotomayor

KENT, Wash. — The Constitution Party of Washington supports the resolution of the national Constitution Party to oppose the confirmation of Supreme Court nominee Sotomayor.

The Constitution Party National Committee, including two delegates from the state of Washington, voted unanimously against this nomination at its spring meeting held in Newark, New Jersey, in June. The following reasons were given as a basis for opposing this nomination:

• Sotomayor denies the applicability of the individual right to bear arms protected by the Second Amendment to the citizens of the several states; and

• She favors statehood for Puerto Rico, which would increase the danger of America ceasing to be an exclusively English language country; and

• She supports giving voting rights to convicted murderers who are still serving time in prison; and

• She is comprehensively opposed to the death penalty for convicted first degree murderers; and

• She has been a member of the National Council of La Raza, many of the leaders of which favor amnesty for illegal aliens and the return of the southwest United States to Mexico; and

• She favors racial and ethnic quotas in education and employment.

The Constitution Party of Washington is absolutely committed to upholding the Second Amendment right of individuals to keep and bear arms.

It is also absolutely committed to English as the official language for all governmental business by the United States.

It is absolutely committed to secure, fair, and responsible elections.

It is absolutely committed to the state’s right to impose a death penalty for capital crimes.

The Constitution Party opposes any attempts to award amnesty to illegal aliens or to return the southwest United States to Mexico.

The Constitution Party opposes racial and ethnic quotas as unconstitutional tools, which violate the basic principles of the Constitution found in the Declaration of Independence.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

While President Barack Obama cites the empathy and life experiences of Second Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Sonia Sotomayor as reasons for her nomination to be a Supreme Court justice, the Constitution Party cites those same empathies and life experiences as evidence against her nomination to the highest court in the land, and strongly oppose it.
