Perry Eugene 'Gene' Oakley

Perry Eugene “Gene” Oakley, 79, longtime Moses Lake resident, passed away Monday, July 20, 2009, at his home.

Gene was born in Browning, Montana, on July 31, 1929, son of the late Perry C. and Verna G. (French) Oakley. He was raised in Superior, Montana, where his parents owned and operated the French Dairy. Gene graduated from high school in Superior. He then attended a Radio and Electronics school in Minneapolis. On May 24, 1951, he was inducted into the United States Army and served in Korea. He was later honorably discharged. Gene then married Mary McKim on February 18, 1966, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Gene owned and operated Superior T.V. and Services Store in Moses Lake for 35 years. He became well-known for his work on the “Help Show,” which was broadcast on local radio. He often had back and forth banter with the broadcaster telling funny stories and jokes. Gene had a certificate for public speaking. Gene and Mary loved to travel, going to the Bahamas, Mexico, Hawaii, Alaska, China and Russia.

He is survived by his wife, Mary, Moses Lake; two sisters, Donna Mae Allen, North Pole, Alaska, and Verle and Doug Johnson of Missoula, Montana; several nieces and nephews.
