Raceway hosts mid-season championships

EPHRATA — Tension between racers was high Saturday night as Ephrata Raceway Park hosted the mid-season championships with the Columbia Basin Herald’s Night at the Races.

Saturday’s mid-season championships did not include trophy dashes and heat races. Racing at Ephrata Raceway Park began with qualifying runs.

Adam Smith of Moses Lake took the top time in the mini stock class in 16.43 seconds. Josh McKenzie of Wenatchee set the fast time in the hobby stock class (16.54). Ephrata’s Bart Hector set the fast time in the street class in 15.65 seconds and Mike Fought of Othello set the fast time in the 360 sprints (13.11).

Action at Ephrata Raceway Park continues Saturday night with Bored Housewives Night at the track. Scheduled races include the vintage modifieds, the Ephrata Pioneer Muffler II adult hornets, Jerry’s Auto Supply hobby stocks and the Pepsi Cola street stocks.

Gates for Saturday’s event will open at 5 p.m. with racing beginning at 7 p.m.

Admission for Saturday’s races is $5 for women 18 and older. Adults are $8, and youth, senior citizens and military personnel are $6.50. Family passes for Saturday are $20 for two adults and three youth.
