MOSES LAKE — Dune Lake Properties owners Sheri and Jake Jacobsen sold their Moses Lake real estate company this week to Joyce Adams, the business’ current broker.

The deal closed Wednesday, Adams said on Thursday.

Sheri Jacobsen remains with the business working as a realtor and her daughter-in-law, realtor Kindra Jacobsen, also stayed with the company.

Adams continues working as the company’s broker, a role she’s held for the past five years.

Recently, the company hired associate broker Sue Rich and another agent.

All of the remaining employees chose to remain with the company despite the ownership change, Adams explained.

“I think we have a wonderful crew,” she commented. “I was really happy about that.”

Sheri wanted to step down as an owner to free up more time for family and travel, Adams said.

Adams worked in real estate for 31 years and said owning her own real estate business is always something she wanted to do.

She previously owned a Soap Lake clothing store called Myra’s, which was sold in 1995.

The Jacobsens continue to own the 141-lot Dune Lake housing development near Moses Lake and the development’s property will still be sold through Dune Lake Properties, Adams explained.

Dune Lake Properties is a full-service real estate company, which also has listings in Coulee City, Ephrata, Othello, Hartline, Wilson Creek, Soap Lake and Douglas County, Adams said.

Adams said they intend to expand the business by adding listings and realtors.

She serves on the state finance committee and is RPAC (political action) chairman with the Washington Association of Realtors.

She is a past state director and also held numerous offices on a local level, she said.

While serving with the realtors’ association, she learned the consensus is the industry bottomed out statewide in January, she said.

But despite the downturn, business picked up and it’s going to rebound, she said.

“I have faith in the industry,” she says. She added she wouldn’t have bought the business if she believed otherwise.

Adams daughter, realtor Mary Conklin, is studying for her broker’s license, and is a four-year employee of the business.

Conklin serves on the board for the Moses Lake-Othello Association of Realtors.

Adams also mentioned the help of her son, accountant Ben Adams, and accountant Chris Newhouse, for their help during the transition.
