MOSES LAKE — The 2009 Babe Ruth World Series to be held at Larson Playfield is less than six weeks away and participant housing is still needed.

Members of the Babe Ruth World Series Task Force assembled Wednesday night at the Holiday Inn Express in Moses Lake to discuss housing options and tournament preparations.

Housing options for tournament teams placed in Ephrata and Othello are complete, but the task force still needs to find approximately 10 homes in Moses Lake.

Housing co-Coordinator Eileen Martinez said she needs to find between eight and 10 homes in Moses Lake after cancellations over the past two weeks.

“We have been going backward,” she said. “Two weeks ago I needed five homes (in Moses Lake). Now I need 10.”

Babe Ruth World Series Tournament co-Director and Task Force Chairman Randy Boruff said participant housing is still a priority.

“It’s a shame (people are backing out),” he said. “It’s a little disappointing. We are filled in Ephrata and we are filled in Othello. We just need a few more people to step up in Moses Lake.”

While housing is still necessary for tournament success, Boruff said tournament preparations are coming along smoothly.

“We are going to make this the best world series possible,” he said. “This will be bigger and better than the one (in 2000).”

Tickets for the 2009 Babe Ruth World Series went on sale July 1 and are currently available in Moses Lake at the Columbia Basin Herald office, the Moses Lake Parks and Recreation Department, and the Moses Lake Chamber of Commerce.

Tickets are available at The Bookery and the Grant County Journal in Ephrata.
