MOSES LAKE — The 2009 Babe Ruth World Series Task Force will assemble Wednesday night at the Holiday Inn Express in Moses Lake to discuss the baseball tournament to be held at Larson Playfield Aug. 15 through Aug. 22.

The 2009 Babe Ruth World Series baseball tournament is less than six weeks away and tournament co-Director and Task Force Chairman Randy Boruff said participant housing is still a priority.

“Othello and Ephrata are filled up,” he said. “We still need eight people in Moses Lake to step up.”

Housing co-Coordinator Eileen Martinez said the Babe Ruth World Series Task Force needs approximately 10 homes to satisfy tournament requirements, she said.

“We are going backwards,” she said. “I went from needing five homes two weeks ago to needing about 10.”

With the 2009 tournament a little more than a month away, Martinez said she needs volunteers.

“I need about 10 homes with six weeks left,” she said. “I need volunteers. I really don’t have anybody left to call. I need people to call me to volunteer.”

Martinez said she has placed teams in Othello and Ephrata but still needs volunteers in Moses Lake.

In addition to needing volunteers to host participants, the task force needs to acquire volunteers to work at the tournament, Boruff said.

“We will take any volunteer who wants to help,” he said. “We are in the last stages and we want to make sure we have enough volunteers to make this go off without a hitch.”

Tickets for the 2009 Babe Ruth World Series went on sale July 1 and are currently available in Moses Lake at the Columbia Basin Herald office, the Moses Lake Parks and Recreation Department, and the Moses Lake Chamber of Commerce.

Tickets are available at The Bookery and the Grant County Journal in Ephrata.
