George to celebrate Saturday

GEORGE — The City of George celebrates Independence Day this Saturday, with a giant cherry pie, contests and entertainment.

The event starts with a community breakfast at 7 a.m. in the George community hall kitchen.

A “cherry bomb run” starts at 8:30 a.m. with 10 kilometer and 2 mile races.

The parade starts at 10 a.m., followed with the opening of the children’s obstacle course and petting zoo at 10:30.

People will be able to paint a tile for the renovated George Community Hall.

Starting at 10:55 a.m., there will be a patriotic program, featuring the Veterans of Foreign Wars Color Guard, the ringing of the freedom bell, a flag salute and the national anthem.

The Stars, Bars and Classic Cars Show begins at 11 a.m. with entertainment starting on stage at 11:30 a.m.

Then at noon, the “Giant Half-Ton Cherry Pie” is served for free.

Fireworks to celebrate the Fourth of July begin at dusk.
