Sally Ann Elmore
Sally Ann Elmore, of Othello, maintained an upbeat attitude throughout her journey with pancreatic cancer for over 2 1/2 years. On Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, with her family and friends by her side, she concluded this journey.
Sally was born on March 9, 1947, in Tacoma, Wash., to Mike Livingston and Willadene (Schmitt) Livingston. The family moved to Huntsville, Texas, while her father finished his education. They then moved to Ephrata and settled in Othello in 1956. She graduated from Othello High School in 1965. In high school she met Dan Elmore and they married in Othello in 1967. In 1974 Sally opened the first restaurant at the “Old Hotel” called “The Backroom Kitchen” and ran it for three years. She then owned and operated “Clothes Happy,” a boutique, for 12 years. Sally returned to school and received her bachelor’s in Business from Washington State University Tri Cities. She then went to work for an interior design store in Kennewick, where she worked for several years. Sally also volunteered at Hiawatha Grade School as a teacher’s aide for many years. She also served as the treasurer for Othello First Presbyterian Church. As a young girl Sally was involved with Campfire Girls and Rainbow. At OHS she was a cheerleader, played clarinet in the band and she was homecoming queen in her senior year.
Sally loved her family and was known to have said that, “God put me on this Earth to be a grandmother.” She was a compassionate person who cared more about others than herself. She will be remembered as an involved mother, loving grandma and passionate friend.
She is preceded in death by her father Mike and her father-in-law Merlin. She is survived by her mother Mary Willadene Livingston of Othello, her husband Dan of Othello, her daughters Danielle Duty of Spokane and Erin Meyer (Joe) of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, her brother Mike (Jana) Livingston of Othello, a sister Lisa (Felix) Livingston of Olympia and five grandchildren.
A celebration of Sally’s life will be held on Friday at the First Presbyterian Church at 3 p.m. Memorials can be sent to: Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 2141 Rosecrans Ave. Ste. 7000, El Segundo, CA 90245, www.pancan.org. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Chapel of Othello.
