June W. Ehlert

| January 29, 2009 8:00 PM

The Lord called June Ehlert home on Jan. 25, 2009.

She was born Wilma June Caldwell on June 14, 1913, to Claude and Cora (Carter) Caldwell, in Humeston, Iowa (Lewistown). At the age of 3, the family moved to South Dakota where she grew up. June attended college in Spearfish, S.D., where she received her teaching certificate. Shortly thereafter she met the love of her life, Edward Leonard Ehlert; they married and began a family, which grew to include five daughters: Jeanette Enzler (Ralph), Karen Wilcock, Doris Gordon (Bob), Genene Ehlert and Roxann Veden (Larry). From South Dakota where the family started, they lived in Boise, Idaho, before settling in Moses Lake. After Ed’s death in 1961, June continued to raise her family on her own working as a child care provider, tailor and seamstress.

As a long-time member of the Evangelical Methodist Church, she supplied the altar with beautiful arrangements for the weekly Sunday service and was a dedicated Sunday School teacher. Her love of gardening made her a lifetime member of the Peninsula Garden Club. She left a legacy of quilts to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many other people who crossed her path. She was a woman of few words, but instead expressed her love, kindness and concern through her actions that touched many lives and made our world a better place.

Three grandchildren preceded her in death: Jamison Edward DeHerrera, Mark Edward Wilcock and Jill Annette Enzler, and one step-grandson, Jerry Enzler. Along with her daughters, survivors include grandchildren: Wendy (Wilcock) Jones, Robert Wilcock (Heidi), Jeff Enzler (Kamelia), Jon Enzler (Tracey), Scott Ehlert (Cathy), Stacey Gordon, Cory Gordon (Jody), Melanie (Gordon) Miller, Megan (Gordon) Silzly (Todd) and Joelle DeHerrera, 13 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Surviving step-grandchildren are Larry Enzler, Carol (Enzler) Tusberg, Aimee Lorenzen (Jason) and Ladonna Veden, and their children. Also appreciated is Vanessa Gates, caregiver.

Funeral services will be held Saturday 11 a.m. at Kayser’s Chapel of Memories in Moses Lake. Viewing will be held at the funeral home on Friday, from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m., and on Saturday, from 8 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, consider donating to your favorite charity or the Moses Lake Alumni Scholarship Fund in her name.

Arrangements are in care of Kayser’s Chapel & Crematory, Moses Lake. You may sign the guestbook or leave a note for the family at www.kayserschapel.com.
