Pedro Cavazos Jr.
Pedro Cavazos Jr., 62, entered into eternal peace and rest on Jan. 24, 2009, in Seattle.
Born April 4, 1946, in Harlingen, Texas, Pedro was raised in Moses Lake and was a graduate of Central Washington University. Pedro served in Vietnam (1965-1967) and was proud to be an Army veteran of the 25th Infantry Division. Pedro worked for many years in the field of social work and in community work, including working with Northwest Rural Opportunities, Grant County Community Action Council, Eastern Washington University and proud owner/publisher of the Hispanic News for many years before his retirement. Pedro was an avid history, politics, social issues, sports and life enthusiast.
Pedro is survived by his wife and life partner of 28 years, Ramona Flores; two sons, Pedro Xavier (and Shelly) Cavazos and Conrado Joaquin Cavazos, of Ellensburg, Wash.; three daughters, Veronica Lisa Cavazos (and Mel Bradley) of Moses Lake, Andréa and Marivel Cavazos of Seattle; five grandchildren, Cameron Tyler Cavazos, Mikaela Eve Cavazos, Dominic Cavazos, Brandon and Preston Bradley. He is also survived by three sisters: Viola C. Tijerina of Boise, Idaho; Josie C. Castro of Corpus Christi, Texas; and Baudelia “Bila” Herrera and her husband Sergio Herrera, of Alameda, Calif.; and one brother, José Angel Cavazos and his wife Yolanda, of Moses Lake. He is also survived by his aunt, Ignacia “Nancy” de la Rosa, of Sebastian, Texas; numerous cousins in Texas; and by many nieces, nephews and God children whom he loved very dearly.
Pedro is preceded in death by his parents, Pedro Cavazos Sr., and Josefina de la Rosa; his father-in-law, Conrado Flores Sr., his aunt, Severa de la Rosa; his brother-in-law, Rosendo Tijerina Sr., and nephew Mark Tijerina.
A rosary was held on Tuesday at 7 p.m., at Yarington’s Funeral Home, 10708 16th Ave. S.W., Seattle. A funeral mass will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church in Seattle Wednesday at 10 a.m.
There will also be a time of visitation at Our Lady of Fatima in Moses Lake on Thursday at 9:30 a.m., a rosary at 10:30 a.m., followed by a funeral mass at 11 a.m. The graveside service will be at Pioneer Memorial Garden followed by a reception at 2 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, 814 Stratford Road, Moses Lake.
Pedro will be greatly missed by his family, a wide circle of friends and all those who experienced his passion for life.
