MOSES LAKE — Moses Lake senior Shelby Gonzales signed a national letter of intent Tuesday to play softball next season for the Cardinals of North Idaho College in Coeur d’Alene.

Gonzales has spent the last three seasons as a catcher for the Moses Lake softball team and was a 2007 All-Columbia Basin Big Nine selection. She was also a two-time All-Columbia Basin Big Nine volleyball selection and was a co-captain for the Chiefs in 2008. Gonzales was also named her team’s most valuable player.

Gonzales will join a North Idaho College program that finished in third place in the Scenic West Athletic Conference and a team that earned Academic All-American Team honors for the fourth consecutive year. North Idaho College had a 3.0 team grade point average.

Gonzales will help the Cardinals both on the softball field and off of it. In her time at Moses Lake High School, Gonzales has served as the Associated Student Body president and vice president. She also served as the pep club treasurer and Honor Society secretary. Gonzales currently maintains a 3.56 grade point average.
