MATTAWA — The dead body of an unidentified adult male was found in a field approximately eight miles southeast of Mattawa Tuesday night.

The man appears to have a gunshot wound to the head, Grant County Undersheriff John Turley said. It was not yet determined if he was shot or if it was a suicide.

The body was found by a farmer in the area of Road 25 and Road L.

It was unclear how long the body was in the field, Turley said. Deputies were on scene Tuesday night and Grant County Fire District 8 provided lighting.

Turley said if they were unable to conduct their investigation during the nighttime hours due to the darkness, they would quarantine the scene and continue the investigation at Wednesday.
