Chiefs roll past Suns, Lions

MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake Chiefs boys basketball team hosted the Suns of Southridge Friday night in a Columbia Basin Big Nine conference contest.

Moses Lake climbed out of the Columbia Basin Big Nine’s Columbia Division cellar with a 78-53 home victory in front of an excited Moses Lake crowd.

The Chiefs jumped out to an early lead thanks to standout student-athlete Josh Loera. Loera — who racked up 34 points on the night — led all scorers.

The first quarter began with Southridge starting off the game hot in their full-court offense.

The Chiefs were able to cool the Suns down on their way to a 17-11 Moses Lake lead at the end of the quarter.

Moses Lake head coach Rolland Hansen said he was pleased with how well his team performed Friday night.

“Everybody just played well,” Hansen said. “Josh (Loera) had a great shooting night.”

The Chiefs continued to play well in the second quarter as Moses Lake outscored the Suns 15-8 for a 32-19 lead going into the half.

Moses Lake Athletic Director Loren Sandhop said the Chiefs came to play Friday night.

“Our kids came out and hustled,” he said. “We had some good defense under the boards.”

The Chiefs continued to dominate the game throughout the second half as Moses Lake earned their first conference victory of the season with a 78-53 win over Southridge.

Moses Lake 61, Kennewick 48

KENNEWICK, Wash. — The Moses Lake Chiefs boys basketball team won their second consecutive game Saturday night when they knocked off the Kennewick Lions 61-48 Saturday night.

Blake Roylance led the Chiefs to victory with 14 points while the Lions from Kennewick managed to keep the Columbia Basin Big Nine Columbia Division’s leading scorer Josh Loera to only 13 points.

The Chiefs dominated the first half for a 32-22 halftime lead and Moses Lake never looked back for their second consecutive conference victory.
