Truck crashes through Moses Lake home

MOSES LAKE — A man reportedly lost control of his truck, crashing into a Moses Lake home Monday, due to a medical condition.
No injuries were reported to anyone inside the residence, Moses Lake Assistant Fire Chief Brett Bastian said. The 35 year-old male driver of a 1999 Ford truck was transported to Samaritan Healthcare but he did not appear to have serious injuries. A passenger in the truck did not appear to be injured.
The male driver was traveling through a roundabout on East Yonezawa Boulevard near the back yards of homes on Allen Court. The driver reportedly lost control of the truck due to a convulsion, according to emergency 9-1-1 dispatch.
The driver crashed through a fence, traveled across a backyard and struck another fence before crashing into a two-story home.
The truck was completely inside the house.
The rear end of the truck was situated in a family room and the front end in a hallway, Moses Lake Fire Chief Tom Taylor said.
A woman was inside the home, sitting in the family room minutes before the collision, Taylor said. She left the family room to check on a baked potato she was preparing in the kitchen when the truck came through the wall.
Heidi Backus lives next door to the damaged residence.
She said she heard a loud “bang” and ran outside to see what happened. The truck traveled through her backyard, past a trampoline.
She saw the truck lodged in the residence and saw one person exit the truck.
Backus said she anticipated someone would eventually crash through the fence from the roundabout due to speed. She often sees drivers speeding.
Agri-Fix Towing towed the truck from the house.
Moses Lake police Capt. Dave Ruffin said the accident is under investigation and the driver was not cited.
