OTHELLO — The Othello Lady Huskies hosted the Quincy Lady Jacks in Central Washington Athletic Conference (CWAC) girls basketball action Saturday night.

Othello entered the game with a 3-2 conference record and the Lady Jacks traveled to Othello with a 2-3 record.

The Lady Huskies felt the roar from a capacity crowd as the fans rooted their home-town team.

After four quarters of play, the Lady Huskies left little doubt in their 58-28 blowout victory over Quincy.

Othello was led by the shooting of senior Allison Walker. Walker recorded a double-double for the Lady Huskies, racking up 19 points and grabbing 13 rebounds in the win.

The first period was hotly contested with both teams showing a run-and-shoot offense. The scoring continued to go back-and-forth during the first quarter before the Lady Huskies grabbed a 12-10 lead after 8 minutes.

The second quarter showed the toll the running game took on the Lady Jacks as Quincy only managed to score five points in the quarter while the Lady Huskies put up 15 points to take a 27-15 lead into the half.

Othello’s defense continued to press the Lady Jacks coming out of the break while the Lady Huskies offense scored 15 points. Quincy scored eight third-quarter points as the Lady Huskies took a 42-23 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Lady Jacks could only score five points in the final quarter as the Lady Huskies improved to 4-2 in conference play with a 58-28 blowout victory.

Othello head coach Laurie Stickel credits her girls’ intensity for the win.

“They were much more intense tonight,” Stickel said. “The girls were ready to get after it.”

The Lady Huskies travel to Connell tonight to take on the Eagles at 6 p.m.

Boys Basketball

Othello 51. Quincy 49

OTHELLO — The Othello Huskies boys basketball team took the court Saturday night in front of an excited home audience.

The home fans were looking for an important Central Washington Athletic Conference victory and the Huskies didn’t disappoint.

Othello Athletic Director and head coach Pete Patitucci praised his team for their efforts and was grateful for the win.

“It was a good effort by the boys, they really hung in there,” Patitucci said. “It was a big win for us, once we got ahead we stayed ahead.”

Standout student-athlete Judah Gowan broke his nose in the affair and not for the first time.

“It was a pretty hard hit, I’ve had it broken eight times now,” he said.

The first quarter opened slowly with the first two minutes remaining scoreless.

The Huskies eventually mounted a running attack and Quincy kept pace playing to a 14-14 tie after the quarter ended.

In the second quarter the Jacks went on the attack, scoring first. Although they scored first, Quincy fell behind as the quarter progressed and Othello took a decisive 32-26 lead over the Jacks heading into the half.

Quincy came out in the second half charged, scoring 11 third-quarter points, but it wasn’t enough to pull even with the charging Huskies who ended the third quarter with a 39-37 advantage.

The game’s final quarter was a free-for-all with both teams exchanging scoring opportunities much to the delight of the boisterous crowd.

With the game on the line and the Jacks at the free-throw line, Quincy stumbled and couldn’t convert a pair of free throws as Othello hung on to win 51-49.

The Huskies next travel to Connell tonight to take on the Eagles at 7:30 p.m.
