Chiefs drop road game to Wildcats
EAST WENATCHEE — The Eastmont Wildcats basketball team seemed to pull off the impossible Tuesday night as they kept Moses Lake senior guard Josh Loera to only two points in the Chiefs’ 67-58 loss on the road.
Loera, who entered Tuesday night as the Columbia Basin Big Nine conference Columbia Division’s leading scorer was held to single-digit scoring.
The senior entered Tuesday night’s game averaging nearly 27 points per game, including a spectacular 33-point performance against Eastmont when the teams played previously on Dec. 6 — a 73-70 Moses Lake victory.
The Wildcats clawed their way to a 26-9 first quarter lead and Eastmont never looked back as they dropped the Chiefs to 3-7 overall. Eastmont continued to build on their lead in the second quarter as the Wildcats entered the half with a 44-22 advantage.
The Chiefs fought their way back in the second half outscoring Eastmont in both the third and fourth quarters. However, the 22-point halftime deficit would prove too much to overcome as the Chiefs fell on the road.
Senior Isaac Bergeson led Moses Lake in scoring with 16 points as the Chiefs finished with four players in double figures.
Wrestling
Toppenish 41, Quincy 28
TOPPENISH — The Quincy Jacks wrestling team couldn’t overcome three consecutive losses from 103 pounds to 119 pounds as Toppenish knocked off their Central Washington Athletic Conference foe 41-28 at home.
Quincy won matches at 125, 130, and 135 to fight their way back in the match, but the Wildcats proved too much for Quincy in the heavier weight classes.
Ephrata 48, East Valley 30
YAKIMA — The Ephrata Tigers clawed their way past the East Valley Red Devils Tuesday night as the Tigers earned the Central Washington Athletic Conference victory.
The Tigers fell behind early at 189 pounds before Deion Ducksworth tied the match at 215 pounds when he pinned Luis Hernandez of East Valley.
The Tigers got forfeit wins from Alex Gallegos at 103 pounds and Preston Hendrickson at 135 pounds to help Ephrata to victory. Mat Classic XX qualifiers Quinton Hendrickson and Anthony Bush also earned victories Tuesday night.
Bush earned a major decision victory with a 13-1 decision over Tanner Nester and Quinton Hendrickson pinned Chris Cliett at 152 pounds.
