| January 7, 2009 8:00 PM

Ruth Walker, 83, completed her journey in life and went to be with her lord on Jan. 2, 2009.

She was born in Akron, Colo., to parents, Alfred and Fay and one sister, Esther. She met her future husband, Wayne Walker, while attending High Prairie High School where she graduated in 1943. During the war, she served her community by teaching school. She then married Wayne after his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army on Feb. 11, 1945. They made their home on the beloved prairies of Colorado ranching and farming. In 1955, Wayne and Ruth secured a farm unit in block 42. They cleared the land of sagebrush and began their farming career in Washington.

Ruth was an active leader of the Wranglers 4-H Horse Club in the early 1960s. She shared many fond memories of the young people. She helped and maintained friendships with them. She again shared her knowledge and time by volunteering at Garden Heights Elementary School. In addition, she enjoyed traveling to numerous rodeos and horse events to watch her children and grandchildren compete. She was an accomplished seamstress, creating garments and decorating her home. She was always up for the challenge of a big day of shopping with her daughters and granddaughters! She was an avid collector of fabric and shoes. She worked beside her husband driving truck, tractor and cat. Ruth was a true farm girl.

She is survived by two daughters and their families; Kay and Dee Whitaker, Sandy Whitaker, Sharon Whitaker and six great-grandchildren; Claretta Walker, Keeva and Dusty Kimble and one great-grandson; sister Esther Guy, Akron, Colo.; sisters-in-law Opal Gage and Esther Manly; family friends Mike Holm and Norma Crouthers.

Services will be held at Kayser’s Chapel and Crematory, Moses Lake, on Friday at 1 p.m.

Pastor Al Parson of Diamond J Ministries will officiate.

Family and friends are also invited to come and share memories at the O’Sullivan Grange #1136, 14724 Rd. 3 S.E.
