PROSSER, Wash. — The Othello Huskies entered their dual meet last season with Central Washington Athletic Conference rival Prosser confident. They exited the meet with disappointment.

“Last year we thought we would beat them,” Othello coach Ruben Martinez said. “I told my wrestlers to remember that feeling.”

The Huskies left little doubt Tuesday night when they traveled to Prosser and knocked off their conference foe with a 60-13 victory.

Othello and Prosser began Tuesday night’s conference contest at 152 pounds. Othello’s Amando Deleon earned the conference victory with a forfeit and the Huskies never looked back as they earned the CWAC win.

The Huskies continued to roll when Daniel Walker pinned Taurino Haurtado in 3:03 at 160 pounds and Tyson Alvarez of Othello pinned Rene Moreno at 171 in 3:15 to give the Huskies a commanding 18-0 lead.

Othello continued their dominance at 189 pounds when Joey Gomez earned a 12-6 decision over Prosser’s Miguel Godinez. Othello earned its fifth consecutive victory to start the match when Jusdin Lynch defeated Balton Weber at 215 pounds by injury default to give Othello a 27-0 advantage.

The Huskies would not shut out the Mustangs when P.J. Chong received a forfeit victory at 285 pounds.

Prosser responded to Othello’s forfeit at 285 pounds with a forfeit of their own at 103 pounds.

After Othello won six of the first seven matches Tuesday night, the Mustangs would rally to win consecutive matches at 112 pounds and 119 pounds.

Prosser’s victories came when Irving Jaimez defeated Othello’s Gilberto Villa with a 12-8 decision at 112. Ozmar Jaimez would keep the Prosser streak alive when he earned an 18-5 major decision over Othello’s Jake Smith.

The victories by the Jaimez brothers and Prosser’s forfeit victory at 285 helped the Mustangs pull within 33-13. This was as close as the Mustangs would get as the Huskies dominated the meet’s final five matches to leave Prosser with the victory.

Othello recovered at 125 pounds when Eduardo Montes pinned Bobby Wilson in 1:15 to get the Huskies wrestling team back on track. Matt Jordan shut out Ethan Groom 4-0 at 130 pounds and Anthony Melo earned a forfeit at 135 pounds for the Huskies.

The Huskies finished Tuesday night’s match with a pair of pins to earn the CWAC team victory. Othello’s Reuben Martinez pinned David Macias at 140  pounds in 36 seconds to give Othello a 54-13 lead and Kiki Rebuelta pinned Robolso Cruz in 1:18 to catapult Othello to the 60-13 victory and close out the match.

Martinez said he was proud of the way his team performed on the road Tuesday night.

“We wrestled really well,” he said. “As long as we keep improving that is all we can ask for.”

Martinez said he has a young team and they are wrestling well.

“We came in and got a win with a young squad,” he said. “We just need to build on that.”
