MOSES LAKE — Entire families gathered at the Moses Lake Museum & Art Center Saturday to make crafts.

“We try to come every time they have it,” said Gabriela Pimentel. “It’s just something to do with my day and she really likes it.”

Gabriela brings her 6-year-old daughter Julia to the museum to make crafts with her.

Julia said she likes to decorate.

On Saturday the group of parents and children were making thermometers, featuring a polar bear, snowflakes and states, “Just Chillin’.” The pieces come in kits and the children glue them together.

Julia said she will hang her thermometer on her wall in her bedroom.

She said her favorite craft was during December’s family event, where she made a snowman on a sled out of marshmallows.

Close to 60 people attended the event before it was halfway over.

In December, about 200 people came to make ornaments out of marshmallows, museum Manager Freya Hart said. Museum staff usually choose a craft based on the holiday for each month.

The free event is held the first Saturday of the month, from noon to 2 p.m., at the museum, she said.

Hart said pre-registration is not required. People simply sign in and start their project.

Gallery Installer Joe Sielaff said the event is great for families to come together and do something outside of their homes.

“I think it’s great that people bring their families in,” volunteer Elisia Dalluge said.

She’s been volunteering at the event for the past six months and also brings her 10-year-old son Cedric to the free museum activities.

Cedric said he likes to make the projects with his mother.

On Saturday the two made a thermometer together.

“For the past year, I think I’ve been to every single one,” Cedric said about the activities.

His favorite activity at the museum was making a monster mask in October.
