Black History Month celebration is Sunday

MOSES LAKE — A Black History Month celebration with food and music is Sunday in Moses Lake.

Say Yes Lord Ministries presents the program, which begins at 3 p.m. in the Chief Moses Middle School cafeteria.

“There’s going to be so much food there, and we want to make sure no one goes hungry,” said Pastor Randy Moore.

Moore said everyone in the community is welcome to attend.

“We’re really excited about it, celebrating the past, and thanking God for our destiny in him,” Moore said.

Barbecue and fried chicken, sweet potato pies, collard greens, green beans, macaroni and cheese, and cobblers and cakes are some of the foods being served.

There will be people wearing authentic African clothing, and artifacts will also be on display.

Guest performers are providing entertainment, including gospel rappers.

All church choirs in the community are invited to sing at the celebration, Moore said.

The event’s keynote speaker is Associate Pastor Christopher Barner.

“Based on the time and the things that we see now even with Barack Obama, it really tells me we’re in a time where we’re receiving the residual blessings from the prayers of our ancestors,” Moore noted.

Moore said President Barack Obama’s election shows that anyone can accomplish what they want in life.

“If you have been told you can’t do it, we can look at Barack Obama and say ‘Yes we can. We can do anything,’” Moore said. 

Moore likened diversity to a salad — each part of the salad complements the rest.

“This nation wouldn’t be a nation without all races, and the salad represents all races coming together and being a tasteful meal,” he said.
