SJE stuns ACH girls

YAKIMA, Wash. — The Almira/Coulee-Hartline Lady Warriors battled St. John-Endicott during the first half of Wednesday’s Washington Interscholastic Activities Association girls basketball opening round, but the Eagles rallied in the second half to knock off top-ranked ACH 62-40.

The Lady Warriors and the Eagles played a hard-fought contest during the first quarter before ACH managed to take a 25-23 lead heading into the half.

With the Lady Warriors holding a two-point advantage at the start of the second half, St. John-Endicott’s Kadee McCanna scored two of her 13 second-half points after the break to help the Eagles pull even with the Lady Warriors.

ACH would respond on their next possession with a 3-point basket, but a stingy St. John-Endicott defense forced the Lady Warriors into missing 17 consecutive shots. The Eagles offense went on a 9-0 run to close out the third quarter and take control of the first-round contest with a 35-28 lead.

St. John-Endicott continued to pour it on in the fourth quarter when the Eagles went on a 7-0 run to start the quarter and take a 42-28 lead.

The Eagles defense continued to pressure the ACH offense and St. John-Endicott upset the top-ranked Lady Warriors 60-42 at the Yakima SunDome.

Madeline Isaak and Sarah Glyon each scored 15 points for the Lady Warriors.

ACH will play Pateros this afternoon in a loser-out consolation game.
