Glenn Robert Mitchell

Glenn Robert Mitchell of Moses Lake died peacefully on Jan. 7, 2009, in Kennewick, Wash. He was 82 years old.

Glenn was born in Bend, Ore., Oct. 10, 1926. He was the second child of William Earl Mitchell and Etta May Mitchell. He grew up in both Weiser and McCall, Idaho, where he attended school. He loved to play marbles as a kid and learned his life long passion for fishing from his dad. In 1942, Glenn and his family moved to Yakima, Wash. Enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1946, he served as a rifleman in the infantry until his honorable discharge in 1947.

Glenn returned to the Northwest after his discharge from the U.S. Army to work on the construction of McNary Dam before moving to California in 1951. After 10 years in California he returned to Moses Lake, where he would spend the rest of his life. He worked at Basic American Foods for 24 years in a variety of roles and positions.

Moses Lake is where he met the love of his life, June Dillon, and they where married in March of 1973. Both Glenn and June retired in 1989. His wife of 35 years, June passed away on June 13, 2008. Her passing was very hard on him and he missed her very much.

Glenn lived life to its fullest, he loved all sports and was very active in his community. It was very hard to go anywhere in Moses Lake without someone saying, “Hi Glenn,” he had so many friends. He also was a member of VFW, Moose, Eagles and American Legion lodges in Moses Lake. Glenn spent all the time he had with grandchildren and great-grandchildren golfing, fishing, going to fairs, and visiting friends and family. He was very giving of his time to both family and friends.

Glenn was preceded in death by his wife June, both of his parents and one brother, James Mitchell of Chehalis, Wash.

Glenn will be missed and always loved by all of those who survive him. Those who love him include his three sisters, Grace Fortier of Shoreline, Wash., Dorothy Olson of King City, Ore., and Lois Watten of Yakima, Wash., two brothers, Jack Mitchell of Terrebonne, Ore., and Lynn Smith of Harrison, Tenn. Glenn has four stepchildren, Bonnie Kahananui of Moses Lake, Linda Bruce of Kennewick, Wash., Ralph Dillon of Moses Lake and Randy Dillon of Kennewick, Wash., and six grandchildren, David Knox, Wendy Sheets, James Bruce, Matthew Dillon, Heather Bruce and Crystal Wiberg, 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m., at Mueller’s Tri-Cities Funeral Home, located at 1401 S. Union St., in Kennewick, Wash., with inurnment to follow at Desert Lawn Memorial Park’s Mausoleum.
