MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake girls basketball team left little doubt in their 51-30 victory over Eastmont in the first round of the Columbia Basin Big Nine district playoffs  Saturday night.

The Chiefs jumped all over the Wildcats from the opening tip by starting the game on a 7-0 run.

The Chiefs closed out the out the game’s first quarter with a 20-7 lead.

Moses Lake head coach Matt Strophy said it was important for his team to get an early advantage.

“I though we did a good job of running out to an early lead,” he said. “When we can jump on a team like that, it is a little demoralizing.”

Senior Carly Noyes got into foul trouble early Saturday night and senior Shelby Kenner helped pick up the slack with a team-leading 12 points.

Although Noyes saw limited action Saturday night,  Strophy said his role-players contributed to the victory.

“Shelby Kenner stepped up big with 12 points,” he said. “I was pleased with the game and how our role-players stepped up for us.”

The Chiefs return to the court Tuesday night when they travel to Walla Walla to take on the Blue Devils.

Eisenhower 72, Moses Lake 53

YAKIMA, Wash. — Moses Lake hung with Eisenhower for 16 minutes Saturday night, but in the end the Cadets proved too much for the Chiefs boys basketball team.

Eisenhower jumped out to a 16-9 first quarter lead on their way to the 72-53 victory in the first round of the Columbia Basin Big Nine district playoffs.

Moses Lake head coach Rolland Hansen said his Chiefs ran into a tough Eisenhower team Saturday night.

“They are a good team,” he said. “Playing them on the road is not the best draw to get. I think they will be the team to beat all the way through.”

Moses Lake senior Josh Loera led the Chiefs with 20 points Saturday night and senior Isac Bergeson added 13 in the losing effort.

The Chiefs will travel to Pasco Tuesday night to take on the Bulldogs in a loser-out contest.

Moses Lake and Pasco split the regular season series, with the home team winning each contest.
