Othello rolls Red Devils
OTHELLO — The East Valley boys basketball team traveled to Othello Friday night looking for a South Central Athletic Conference victory on a cold winter night.
The Huskies gave the Red Devils more than they were looking for Saturday.
Othello devoured East Valley 66-37 in the one-sided affair.
Although the Huskies got off to a slow start Friday night, they controlled the game for most of the contest.
Neither Othello nor East Valley could run away with the game during the first quarter.
Both teams played strong in the opening minutes before the Huskies managed to build a 20-16 lead after the first quarter.
While the Red Devils kept it close through eight minutes of play, the Huskies dominated the rest of the game.
Othello rolled in the second quarter, opening the quarter by going on a 18-4 run. Othello’s run turned a 20-16 first quarter lead into a 38-20 halftime advantage.
With the Huskies holding a dominating lead over the Red Devils, Othello head coach Pete Patitucci showed mercy as he sat the starters and allowed the Othello bench to get onto the court and the Huskies took a 54-27 lead into the fourth quarter.
East Valley tried to make a run during the fourth quarter, but the Huskies were too strong for the Red Devils down the stretch.
With the postseason approaching, Patitucci was proud to see his team get the victory.
“We’ll take them anyway we can get them this late in the season,’ he said.
