They call it 'puppy love'

MOSES LAKE— Two dogs were adopted within the first 30 minutes of the Puppy Love event at the Moses Lake Museum and Art Center (MAC) Saturday.
The MAC teamed with Grant County Animal Outreach to create an event where youth could come with their family to make Valentine’s Day cards and view dogs and cats in need of homes.
Rylee White, 8, was first to adopt a dachshund named Georgette.
“I think she’s wonderful,” she said about her 5-year-old dog. “I’ve always wanted a little dachshund and I love this color on her.”
Rylee’s mother Christal said they came to the event because they wanted to adopt a rescue animal.
Rylee said her father will be surprised to see the new dog because he doesn’t know they came to adopt Georgette.
“He wanted a different dog but we figured it’s my dog,” she said with a laugh.
Outreach Board Member Jan Baker said she hopes to do more adoption events with the MAC during their free family Saturday events. She said all the dogs and cats featured were either stray or surrendered to the shelter by their owner.
In a room separate from where the animals were on display, children and their families were making valentines.
Paula McCrory learned about the event while she was walking past store fronts on Third Avenue looking for a purse. She decided to come inside the museum because she had never been there before. When she learned about the event, she brought her 6-year-old granddaughter Nicole Hellewell to make some crafts.
Nicole said she was making six valentines for friends and family.
The final valentine was being created for her friend Kiah Gay. She said it was her favorite one because it was a large piece of foam she had cut into the shape of a heart.
She also made one for her grandmother.
Written inside, Paula found a strange request. Nicole asked if her friend Kiah could stay the night. Paula laughed because it was written in a Valentine’s Day card.
Nicole said she felt confident her friend would be able to come over thanks to the card.
Paula said she plans to bring Nicole to more events in the future because of the nice time they had together.
The MAC hosts a free event on the first Saturday of each month from noon to 2 p.m. The MAC is located at 228 W. Third Ave., in Moses Lake.
