Shop catches fire in Moses Lake

| February 9, 2009 8:00 PM

MOSES LAKE — A shop caught fire Friday night on West Peninsula Drive in Moses Lake.

The Moses Lake Fire Department responded a few minutes after 5 p.m., when the fire was reported to emergency dispatch.

Heavy smoke could be seen from several blocks away.

Firefighters began dismantling the metal-sided building to spray water near the roofing and insulation that was on fire. They leaned a ladder against the building to reach the roof and spray designated areas.

On the opposite side of the building, firefighters were ventilating the smoke through a large open door space.

It is unclear how the fire began, Moses Lake Fire Chief Tom Taylor said Friday night. People were working in the shop and walked away from the building for a few minutes. When they returned, it was on fire.

There were several other buildings in the area but they were not damaged by the fire.

No injuries were reported.
