Moses Lake home damaged in fire

MOSES LAKE — A Moses Lake family was displaced after an electrical fire damaged their North Mattson Avenue home late Tuesday night.
The parents in the home smelled smoke and called 9-1-1 at about 11:30 p.m., Moses Lake Fire Department Chief Tom Taylor said.
Moses Lake police helped to remove the family from the home.
When firefighters arrived, they saw smoke coming from the eves and determined the fire was coming from the attic of the house, he said.
Firefighters reached the fire through the ceiling and found a significant amount of flames, Taylor said. The fire was extinguished quickly but the overhaul time to ensure it would not reignite took about an hour due to where the fire was located.
There were no injuries in the fire.
The homeowner reported they were recently having electrical problems, Taylor said. The cause of the fire was determined to be due to faulty wiring.
Taylor said the family was lucky they called 9-1-1 when they did because had another 15 to 20 minutes passed, there would have been a significantly large house fire. The fire was directly above the children’s bedroom, he added.
Contact information for the Red Cross was given to the family, he said. The home was insured.
