Chiefs take 2nd in Reno
RENO, Nevada — Moses Lake High School took second at the Sierra Nevada Classic at the Reno Livestock Events Center last night.
Junior Brian Chamberlain took the 215-pound crown with a 4-3 win in the final over a Clackamas (Oregon) High School wrestler who came into the contest with a 62-match win streak.
“I definitely had to do my best. I got a two-point takedown in the third-round and just held him down for the last minute and rode him out. This win tells me I’ve got a little more potential than I thought I had.”
Chiefs coach Jamie Wise said Chamberlain won a tough battle.
“It was probably the performance of the year so far,” Wise said. “He followed hips better than he has done all year. It was like two stallions going at it. They are both very strong and it was one of those great matches with both of them attacking.”
Kabe Fluaitt took fourth-place at 285-pounds, while Robert Leyva (112-pounds) and Jordan Bishop (135-pounds) took seventh in their weight classes.
“It was a very nice tournament for us,” Wise said. “We came together as a team and really battled. We tried to help each other perform at a high level. It was nice to see the bonding that was taking place.”
