Shooting victim remains in ICU

SEATTLE — Moses Lake resident Brandon R. Burgess, 25, remains in the intensive care unit at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle Monday afternoon.

He was upgraded from critical to serious condition after being shot in the abdomen after an argument Sunday morning. His brother Jordan Burgess told the media he was doing better after being removed from a ventilator.

Hospital staff reported his family was with him in the ICU.

Bradley J. Phillips, 25, Moses Lake, was released from Kootenai Medical Center in Idaho after he was shot in the knee.

Both men were visiting relatives in Idaho.

Early Sunday morning, they were allegedly shot on Sherman Avenue in Coeur d’Alene by Adam M. Johnson, 25, Coeur d’Alene.

The suspected gunman was charged with two counts of attempted murder and his bail was set at $500,000.

Johnson was reported to be the president and CEO of Convertec, a Coeur d’Alene-based telecommunication company and a board member of the Post Falls Chamber of Commerce, according to the Associated Press.

Witnesses reportedly told police the three men were in an argument at a bar called The Underground prior to the shooting. According to police, Johnson left The Underground around 12:44 a.m.

The victims and several other people were walking south on Third Street toward Sherman Avenue when they rounded the corner and came upon Johnson walking east.

Witnesses reported the suspect exchanged words with the victims, pulled a .40 caliber semiautomatic handgun and fired several shots at the group. Police said at least five rounds were fired.

After the shots were fired, a crowd of  20 to 25 people reportedly kicked and punched Johnson, pushed him through a window at a restaurant and held him until police arrived.
